Carberry Appointed Director of Enrollment Management at GCC

Gateway Community College (GCC) is pleased to announce that Tony Carberry has been appointed Director of Enrollment Management effective November 14, 2014.
Carberry expressed his enthusiasm for Gateway by pointing out that he finds Gateway’s staff, “truly committed and focused on what is best for the students; from the President on down there is a sense of family,” he explained. “I want to bring that to the community. I am passionate about creating an environment where we advocate for all students, across their various differences, to expand opportunities and make higher education accessible.”
Carberry comes to GCC from Central Connecticut State University where he served as the Associate Director of Recruitment & Admissions. His vast and varied background includes working in Admissions and Special Programs at the University of New Haven, where he earned his Executive MBA. Carberry alson brings corporate management experience which he gained as a Territory Sales Manager with the Gulf Oil and Amoco Oil companies.
Originally from Baltimore, Md., Carberry has lived in the Hamden-New Haven area since 1979, and is active in community organizations including the Hamden Fathers Association, the Hamden Board of Education, and Eta Alpha Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Widow Sons-Prince Hall Masons and East Rock Lodge 141 of The Improved and Benevolent Order of Elks of the World.
Carberry is currently a Trustee of Varick Memorial AME Zion Church and Vice President of the Board of Directors of Higher Heights Youth Empowerment, Inc. a pre-collegiate awareness and access organization. An avid basketball fan, Carberry is the father of two sons who played CT All-State basketball sons, Tobe and Tobin, who were College Deans List scholarship athletes with All-America recognition. Carberry and his wife Belinda live in Hamden.
