National Open Education Week sets sail at Gateway Community College March 1 through March 5. A celebration of Open Educational Resources, Open Education Week serves to highlight the impact that open education has on teaching and learning through various webinars.
Open Educational Resources (OER) are defined as a type of educational material freely available for teachers and students to use, adapt, and share. Participants can attend webinars with accomplished speakers from around the country who will discuss Open Educational Resources (OER) as they relate to equity and inclusion, intellectual property, and social justice.
On Friday, March 5th at 10am, Gateway CC librarians take the stage in sharing about uses and benefits of OERs for classes. Martha Lipowski, Director of Library Services, sees a huge benefit for students when faculty choose Open Educational Resources.
“When faculty adopt Open Educational Resources, they're not only saving students thousands of dollars in textbook costs, they're providing a more equitable and sustainable learning experience for all students,” Lipowski explained.
