GCC Dean of Administrative Affairs, Louis (Lou) D’Antonio has retired from state service after an illustrious career that spanned 36 years. D’ Antonio is a well-known representative of the college and advocate for education. 

A native of New Haven, D’Antonio dedicated a lifetime of service to our community. He began his career with Gateway Community College, known then as South Central Community College, in 1981 as the Director of Community Services and Continuing Education. He was promoted to Associate Dean of Community Affairs and in 1989 was appointed to his current position as Dean of Administrative Affairs. In this capacity, D’Antonio was responsible for the oversight of a myriad of administrative and financial support services including facilities, maintenance and event management, financial affairs, information technology, institutional research as well as safety and security. At its core he ensured that the campus was prepared to meet the demands of faculty, students and the community.

D’Antonio’s contributions to Gateway have been innumerable. He represented the college as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and the Personnel and Finance Committee of Workforce Alliance. And in what has been the singularly most transformative measure for Gateway, D’Antonio led the Building Committee for the downtown campus which opened in 2012.

Following his graduation from New Haven public schools, Lou earned both his bachelor and master’s degrees at Fairfield University. Prior to joining Gateway, D’Antonio held positions with the New Haven Office of Manpower and the New Haven Employment and Training Administration. D’Antonio’s retirement, along with the coinciding retirement of President Dorsey Kendrick, marks the end of an era for Gateway Community College.

“It is a bittersweet time and we will miss Lou very much,” said GCC spokeswoman Evelyn Gard. “We have so much to be grateful for and to celebrate as we look back on all that was accomplished over the past two decades, so we’re a bit misty-eyed around here at the moment.”

D’Antonio retired on June 30, the official last day of the 2016-17 academic year. D'Antonio is pictured above (center) with his wife Adrienne and Lou Mangini, who presented D'Antonio with a Citation that was read on the House floor by U.S. Representative, Rosa DeLauro.
