Gateway Community College (GCC) is offering a free educational seminar entitled, “Estate Planning for a Loved One With Special Needs” from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27 in room N102 at 20 Church Street, New Haven.
The seminar, which is sponsored by Guardian, is open to the public and will cover special needs estate planning, including topics such as the $2,000 cap, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, wills, trusts, life insurance, and special needs trusts. Instructor John Caserta will discuss guardianships and conservatorships and how to navigate the Able Act. Guardian Life Insurance Company, a leading provider of life, disability and other benefits for individuals, is generously funding the seminar.
Jaime French, director of the Step Forward Program at GCC, said that the workshop will provide helpful information for the family members of special needs children. The information is very specific to the financial processes regarding wills and trusts for special needs children.
“This is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to learn about financial strategies and plan for their loved one’s wellbeing,” French said.
Free parking is available at the Temple Street Garage. Parking tickets can be validated by GCC Security. For information, or to pre-register, please contact Timothy Hyde at (203) 285-2309 or
