GCC Participates in National Entrepreneurship Week with Series of Events Starting Feb. 22

Gateway Community College will host a week-long series of events beginning Feb. 22 as part of the fourth annual National Entrepreneurship Week, which encourages support for the growth of entrepreneurship education as a lifelong process.

The events are presented by GCC’s Entrepreneurial Studies Program, its Business Department, its chapter of Students in Free Enterprise, as well as the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. and New Haven SCORE. They include three workshops and one panel discussion, each focusing on an important entrepreneurial issue:

Tuesday, Feb. 22

Gateway Community College will host a workshop, “How to Pitch Your Business to Investors,” as part of National Entrepreneurship Week on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in room 207B at GCC’s Long Wharf campus at 60 Sargent Drive in New Haven. It will feature Michael Roer, executive director of the Connecticut Venture Group, who will offer practical guidance based on his many years of experience in reviewing business plans and working with investors. Tuesday, Feb. 22

Gateway Community College will host a workshop, “Big Ideas on Tight Budgets – Marketing for Small Businesses,” as part of National Entrepreneurship Week on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in room 160 at GCC’s Long Wharf campus at 60 Sargent Drive in New Haven. It will feature Matthew Hallock, owner of Voice Advertising Agency, whose clients include the NFL, CA and Lifeworx. The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary.

Wednesday, Feb. 23

Gateway Community College will host a workshop, “Creating Business Opportunities Through Networking,” as part of National Entrepreneurship Week on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in room 160 at GCC’s Long Wharf campus at 60 Sargent Drive in New Haven. It will feature Bob Dickson, president of Dale Carnegie Training of Western Connecticut, who will speak about effective business communications. The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary.

Thursday, Feb. 24

Gateway Community College will host a panel discussion, “Lessons in Excellence,” as part of National Entrepreneurship Week on Thursday, Feb. 24 ,from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in room 160 at GCC’s Long Wharf campus at 60 Sargent Drive in New Haven. The panel will include three successful entrepreneurs who will share their lessons in excellence: Mary Jane Paris, president of Positiv-A-Tea, a gourmet tea company in Shelton; Miles Lasater, co-founder of Higher One Inc., a leading technology company in New Haven that helps college business offices manage operations and provide enhanced services to students; and, Phyllis Haynes, founder of Southern Relishes, a specialty gourmet food company. The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary.
