Gateway Community College (GCC) Library and Learning Commons Director Clara Ogbaa said the library recently added 38,000 eBooks, bringing Gateway’s eBook collection to more than 138,000 titles.
“We are very pleased that our students, faculty and staff have access to so many eBooks that they can access on campus and off campus,” Ogbaa said.
The collection is wide ranging and is particularly strong in the areas of allied health, nursing, the social sciences and the humanities.
Students, faculty and staff have access to eBooks, as well as other online resources, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Online journal articles, texts and reference materials can be accessed in person at the library and at home on a Sunday evening from laptops, tablets and desktops. The library’s website also provides links to thousands of other books and reference sources including: Encyclopedia Britannica, the Gale Virtual Reference Library, the Internet Archive: Text Archive with access to 300,000 digital texts and Librivox, which has audio versions of books in the public domain available for download in .mp3 or .ogg formats
The GCC Library’s print collection features a special section of new fiction and non-fiction on the lower level of the Learning Commons. They include New York Times best-sellers, Amazon’s highly recommended titles and titles recommended by GCC library staff. A smattering of the new fiction titles include: NW by Zadie Smith, Bring up the Bodies by Hillary Mantel, Home by Toni Morrison, The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers and Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon.
