Honorary Associate's Degree Conferred Upon Daniel N. Caron

An honorary Associate's degree was conferred upon Daniel N. Caron at Gateway Community College’s 24th  Commencement Ceremony on May 26 at Yale’s Woolsey Hall. Caron proudly serves on the board of Gateway Community College Foundation and sits on their laboratory technician program planning committee.

A longtime advocate of corporate citizenship, Caron has a wide breadth of experience spanning 30 years in leadership roles in the biotech and not-for-profit sectors. Having recently completed a 24-year tenure at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, he joined the firm at its inception in 1992 and oversaw management of facilities at over thirty global Alexion sites, in areas including construction, global security, environmental health and safety, laboratory management, lease administration, corporate responsibility and philanthropy.  

With an extensive engineering, biomedical research and business background, Caron devotes much of his time to education, jobs/career opportunities and the needy in Connecticut communities. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Connecticut Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees, where he has served on the board since 2012. He chaired their scholarships and allocations committee and is currently the chair of the development committee.  

Caron serves on the career advancement committee of the Connecticut Employment and Training Commission and is a member of the agricultural sciences advisory committee for Connecticut’s Region 14 school district. He is a longtime supporter of many programs including HomeFront, as a house captain revitalizing schools and homes for those in need and mentoring students through the Junior Achievement programs, judging science fairs, hosting student interns and supporting science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education in the classroom.

A strong supporter of social entrepreneurship, Caron is a founder and director of Health Educated, a Benefit Corporation that focuses on health disparities in Connecticut’s underserved urban communities.

He holds an M.S. in Bioengineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic University and a B.S. in Biology from Adelphi University.
