Share
Diane Smith will speak at Gateway Community College on Monday, Dec. 2 at 11:00 a.m., in the Library and Learning Commons Conference Room (S217).
Smith is an Emmy award winning TV journalist, radio talk show host and co-author of Obsessed: America’s Food Addiction - And My Own. She will talk about her weight loss journey—the result of a challenge by co-author Mika Brezezinski who says, “It’s time we learned to stop blaming ourselves, and each other, and look at the real culprits—the food we eat and our addiction to it.” In return, Brezezinski vowed to gain 10 pounds and accept herself at her new weight by overcoming her obsession with food. Copies of the book will be available on site for a book signing to follow the talk.
This event is one of a series brought to the college through the Esther Haseltine Schiavone Cultural Fund, established by Jennifer Schiavone through the Gateway Community College Foundation, Inc., to bring cultural and artistic events to the Gateway Community College for public enrichment.
Diane Smith’s appearance at GCC is the latest in a series of presentations made possible through the fund. Since its inception in 2006, the Esther Haseltine Schiavone Cultural Fund has sponsored a multitude of events at Gateway Community College including author Wally Lamb, the “Let’s Talk About It – Muslim Journeys” book discussions, Connecticut Poet Laureate Richard Allen, vocalist Giacomo Gates, forensic scientist, Henry Lee and musical groups Mikata, the Chroma Duo and the Yale Ensembles Lunchtime Concert Series.
“The college community is grateful to Jennifer for her contributions to the cultural environment of the college and our region,” said GCC President, Dorsey Kendrick. “Her generosity makes it possible to bring arts and cultural opportunities to the college that would otherwise be out of reach.”
