GCC Black History Month Events

Share

GCC is hosting several events for Black History Month, as a tribute to the African American men and women who have made contributions to our nation’s history.

Free pre-screening of Black Panther: Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.  Sign up in S110. Open to GCC students only.

Black History Bowl Show: Feb. 21  Details coming

Liberty Bell Celebration: Feb. 28:  The GCC Black Students' Association office will host this event in room N100. The Liberty Bell is a celebration of diversity, achievement, and new beginnings. The Liberty Bell has a significant place in our history as Americans. Tradition tells of the chime that rang out on July 8, 1776 and summoned the citizens of Philadelphia to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Abolitionists, in their efforts to end slavery, adopted the Liberty Bell as their symbol. The promise of America – which has made our nation the greatest in the history of the world – has been that citizens have the freedom and opportunity to pursue their dreams and determine their own future. The history of African Americans and their inspirational story is a reminder of just how precious that promise of equal opportunity and freedom is to an America that leads the world in ideals, innovation and prosperity – an America that can always look to a brighter future.
