Share
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Gateway Community College presented a screening of The Borinqueneers, a 78 minute documentary about a never-before-told chronicle of the 65thInfantry Regiment, the only all-Puerto Rican regiment in the United States Army and recent recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal.
This compelling film, which was previously aired on PBS and on the Armed Forces Network, relies on interviews with the Regiment’s veterans and features archival footage tracing the dramatic events that threatened their very existence as they fought in the Korean War.
The screening, which took place on October 5, 2016, opened with a heartwarming rendition of the National Anthem by GCC staff writer, Lauren Smith. The Borinqueneers is narrated by Hector Elizondo (Chicago Hope, Pretty Woman) and was followed by comments and a question and answer session with the film’s producer, Noemi Figueroa Soulet and veterans Jaime Lopez & Eugenio Quevedo.
The Borinqueneers wa s presented in English and this screening was free and open to the public courtesy of the Gateway Community College Student Activities fund.
