Susan Logston has been named chairperson of the Gateway Community College Social Sciences department. On behalf of GCC President Dorsey L. Kendrick, Mark Kosinski, dean of Academic Affairs, announced Logston’s appointment.
“Susan brings extensive experience and a long track-record of leadership to this position,” Kosinski said.
Victor Medina, who served as department chair for two years, will return to his teaching duties in sociology. “The President and I join all members of the Social Sciences department in conveying our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Victor Medina for his leadership and steady hand while chair of the Social Sciences these past two years,” Kosinski said.
President Kendrick appointed Carmelita Valencia-Daye to the position of Program Coordinator for the Early Childhood Education Program (ECE) to succeed Logston.
“The ECE Program was the first program in the state’s community college system to achieve National Association for the Education of Young Children accreditation status and I am confident Carmelita’s leadership will support the program’s continued growth and track-record supporting student success in the field of education.”
“As Susan Logston moves into her new role as chair of the Social Sciences, I want to personally acknowledge her many years of outstanding leadership as ECE Program Coordinator,” Kosinski said. “I look forward to working with both Susan and Carmelita in their new leadership roles.”
