State Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr., Speaks at Sages Senior Day

Share

Connecticut State Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr., visited Gateway Community College on Thursday, Dec. 3 to speak on "The Value of Senior Citizens in Our Country" at the annual Senior Day meeting. The annual Senior Day event is hosted by Gateway’s Senior Citizen Club, the Sages, and is focused on providing area senior citizens with valuable information to enhance their quality of life.

Senator Kennedy delivered a rousing keynote speak and even graced his audience with an impromptu performance of “It had to be you,” accompanied by Joel A. Martin of Jazzical on piano.

Ted Kennedy, Jr., is the son of Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy from Massachusetts and nephew of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. He is a partner at Epstein Becker & Green, a firm headquartered in New York City and currently represents Connecticut's 12th Senate district in the Connecticut Senate.  Senator Kennedy, a Branford resident, is well known as a healthcare attorney, business entrepreneur, and lifelong advocate for people with disabilities. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University, Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and the University of Connecticut School of Law.

The Sages Senior Day, the brainchild of recently retired Professor Emerita, Dr. Kerin Lee,  is a long-held Gateway Community College tradition.  Over the years the GCC Sages have gathered to support Gateway Community College students by advocating on their behalf and using their votes to advance supportive legislation. Dr. Lee recently turned the reigns over to GCC Humanities Professor Susan Chenard, who now serves as the Sages liaison with the College.
