GCC HONORS VETS ON CAMPUS
Share
Gateway Community College's (GCC) office of Veteran's Affairs hosted a commemorative ceremony for veterans on campus, November 11. Members of the GCC community gathered for a special celebration to honor veterans for their service and dedication to our country. The ceremony, which was held in the Curran Community Center, opened with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, sung by student Joseph Hill. Highlights of the ceremony included remarks from director of Career Services and Veteran’s Affairs, Kellie Danso and Veteran's Affairs Coordinator, Rick Palinko, who also showed video testimonials from student veterans. The solemn event culminated in a rededication of the Oath of Enlistment and the Commemorative Challenge Coin.
Gateway Community College is particularly mindful of the needs of students and staff who have served in the military. Among the available resources is the Veterans’ Oasis, where veterans can gather before, after and between classes. The Veteran's Affairs office at GCC provides advising, career counseling, a veteran-to-veteran work-study mentoring program and a veteran certifying officer who can assist veterans with their benefits.
