Gateway Community College President Dr. Dorsey L. Kendrick has been invited to attend the first of four U.S. Department of Education Community College Regional Summits, which will be held Feb. 28 in Philadelphia.
The summits will bring together 150 participants from surrounding states — representatives from community colleges, business and industry, philanthropy, labor, state and local government, and students — to explore and take to scale strategies that work in helping students succeed. Each of the four summits will have a different focus and will be held in a different part of the country.
The Feb. 28 summit will explore “Transitioning Adult Learners to Community Colleges and the Workforce” and offer five breakout sessions: Transitions To and Through Community Colleges; Developmental Education; Business Partnerships; College Affordability, and; Completion Goals.
The summits are designed to continue the conversation begun Oct. 5 when Dr. Jill Biden, a community college instructor for the past 17 years and Vice President Joseph Biden’s wife, chaired the White House Summit on Community Colleges. The White House summit offered an opportunity to share strategies and recommendations for meeting President Obama's 2020 goal for the United States to once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.
