GCC Small Business Center, SCORE Offer Business Workshops in January

The Gateway Community College (GCC) Small Business Center and the New Haven chapter of SCORE will be offering two free events in January, one for entrepreneurs who want to start a business and another for entrepreneurs who want to learn how to write a business plan.
The first event, which will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, is SCORE’s monthly pre-business workshop. There is no pre-registration required for the free workshop, which will be held at GCC’s Long Wharf campus, 60 Sargent Drive, in room 160 from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will include a review a variety of topics for individuals thinking about going into business for themselves, including business plans, state taxes, insurance, financing, marketing, bookkeeping, business laws and web sites.
The second event, which will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, is an evening seminar titled, “The Painless Approach to Writing a Business Plan.” The seminar will be held from 6:50 to 9 p.m. at the Small Business Center in room 207B on GCC’s Long Wharf campus. It is free and pre-registration is not required, but seating is limited.
One-on-one counseling sessions with SCORE are also available each Wednesday at GCC from 1 to 4 p.m. by appointment only.

GCC’s Small Business Center includes the academic office for GCC’s Entrepreneurial Studies degree and certificate programs, the administrative and counseling office for the New Haven chapter of SCORE, an organization of retired executives that offers advice to local entrepreneurs, as well as other federal and state small business assistance resources and Students in Free Enterprise.
