Professor Douskey’s "Sinatra and Me" is GCC’s Library and Learning Commons First Book Club Pick

Share

Gateway Community College (GCC) Humanities Professor Franz Douskey’s latest book Sinatra and Me: The Very Good Years, with Tony Consiglio is the first selection of the GCC Library Book Club. Participants can pick up copies of the book throughout the month of February. A discussion will be held March 13 at 12:30 in the Library’s Multipurpose Room.

Library and Learning Commons Director Clara Ogbaa said she hopes that many students, faculty and staff take part. Professor Douskey donated five copies of the book and Ogbaa has ordered additional copies.

“We are very pleased that Professor Douskey’s book will be the first book we read together in our new Library,” Dr. Ogbaa said. “We want to promote lifelong learning and reading as a college community. A book club is way to discover new authors, to make new friends; it’s a very positive experience.” Interested readers should email Shauna Carrano or call 203-285-2059.

Sinatra and Me: The Very Good Years , is based on extensive interviews with Tony Consiglio, Frank Sinatra’s lifetime friend and confidante. Publisher’s Weekly called it “a grand read.” For a description of Sinatra and Me on Amazon.com, click here .

Douskey’s work has been published in more than 150 magazines and journals, including the New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Yankee. In 2011, his poetry collection West of Midnight: New and Selected Poems was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

April’s title will be Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, the best-selling mystery that The New York Time’s Janet Maslin called “spectacularly sneaky…impressively cagey.”
