Gateway Community College Gender Equity Center Events Raise Awareness of Sexual Assault
Share
Activities planned to raise awareness about sexual assault and support victims of sexual violence are taking place throughout the month of April through the Gender Equity Center at Gateway Community College (GCC).
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the GCC’s Gender Equity Center used this designation to develop numerous events to bring increased consciousness to the problem and provide strategies to help students prevent themselves from being victimized. Topics explored throughout the programs include cyberbullying, sexual assault in the military, signs of an unhealthy relationship, and bystander intervention.
On Monday, April 8 in room N111, there will be a movie screening of Audrie & Daisy, a documentary that examines the effect on communities, families, friends and schools after two young women are sexually assaulted. The victims were subjected to cyberbullying and the documentary follows the story through court and police investigations.
